Fashion Friday: Mixing Prints

Fashion Friday: Mixing Prints

No matter where I am, anytime I see a woman mixing prints and patterns, I can’t help but get all warm and fuzzy on the inside.

The key to mixing prints is to have one that takes control.  The “lead” print in an outfit can be different prints to different people.  The easiest way to think about this is take the prints and if you can look at your outfit and fall in love with one of them, even with the other looming close by, you have a perfect match!

Here, the tie dyed tank acts as one print, and the vintage-inspired floral print is the other.  To my eye, I am drawn to the tie dye.  I love the colors, the neutral pattern, and the combination of the lavender shorts, the colors blend well.  Adding the over shirt to the the look, with the browns coordinating with the purple, the match is made!

I am not too big of a fan of mixing 2 geometric patterns- the juxtaposition of the lines, the harsh angles, that’s why I leaned towards two looks with softer, rounded prints.  However, I would advise you to get to your closet, pull out a vibrant plaid shirt and a vibrant floral print tank, and play around with this idea.  It’s trial and error, hopefully not too many errors, but you have to play around with this.

And trust me, the payoff is huge!  Pull off this look and you will definitely create a drooling audience!

Make it your own!

All the best,

Michael!
