Fashion Friday: Lovely Layers

Fashion Friday: Lovely Layers

Just because the weather is warming up doesn’t mean you have to throw away your favorite colder weather trends.  And my favorite is, and will always be, layering!  The more, the better!

In the warmer months, you can still pull off this look, but to keep from sweating your face off in the heat, and not-to-mention looking out of place, follow these simple tips.

1-      Choose breathable fabrics.  Cottons, woven or loose knit tops, lightweight silks.

2-      Go after pieces that make an impact but also look great when not worn as an outfit.  For instance, in these images, the crocheted tank would look great layered and dressed up, or even worn over your bathing suit.  And the cape, wear it over solids, patterns, prints, t-shirts or button ups!

3-      Try to avoid wearing this trend with pants.  The pants will weigh down the flowy, springtime look, and make it seem a little out-of-date.  These shorts have tons of movement, and the best part, because they are so pleated, give off the appearance of a skirt.

There’s no need to over think this idea.  Layer the pieces that you love.  But make sure they aren’t competing.  Too much print or pattern can make your look too haphazard.  You must find the perfect balance of proportion and print, and mixing prints, well, that’s in a category all its own!

For now, simply start looking through your closet for shorts and light weight tops and tanks, and then outer wear- which could even be your staple denim shirt- and try making the adjustments of what you already own, then hit the shops and find the items you can’t live without!

Make this idea your own!

All the best,

Michael
