The Music of One Tree Hill: When the Melodic ‘Stars’ Aligned

The Music of One Tree Hill: When the Melodic ‘Stars’ Aligned

The music of “One Tree Hill” was addictive from day one; throughout the first season and into the second, these songs came to be more significant to fans. As I always say: the new music became just as important to us as the new episode was.

A few episodes into the second season One Tree Hill took a different direction with the songs on their show after bringing on a relatively new singer — but an unknown actor — Tyler Hilton as the wise-cracking Chris Keller. The character of Haley (played by Bethany Joy Galeotti, née Lenz) was no longer who we found out — halfway through season one — was just ‘a girl who just liked to sing’.

Oh no, Haley became ‘a singer’.

Tyler and Bethany Joy recorded a cover of the Ryan Adams classic When The Stars Go Blue (fan made video) for episode 2×08 Truth, Bitter Truth and after that song made major waves with the fan base, the show began to release soundtracks, have a concert tour and bring on popular musical acts to perform in the fictional TRIC nightclub. It was truly a show with music and storyline that went hand-in-hand.

We’ve always loved this about One Tree Hill therefore When The Stars Go Blue will always have a significant meaning to us as ‘the track that kick-started it all’.

This song was heard several times throughout that second season as performed by Chris and Haley — but also even guest stars. You honestly can not think back on the musical history of this drama and not include this memorable piece of it.

Naturally the only down-side was that Chris Keller totally wormed his way into the relationship of Nathan and Haley …and nearly demolished it. True love stands against all though and after that near-debacle, Chris Keller became the character that we here at OTH-Music.com “love to hate” … yet we mostly just love.

Sometimes we wonder if the musical chemistry and Haley had never taken off — would there have been as much musical promotion with the show? Would we had had three successful soundtracks? CD signings? The tour?

Maybe Chris Keller is good for something.

Have you always loved “When The Stars Go Blue” as much as us?
