The Music of One Tree Hill: The Daring Move

The Music of One Tree Hill: The Daring Move

The Music of One Tree Hill series supported by OTH-Music.com where you can find ”that song” in “that scene”. Visit OTH-Music.com or follow @oth_music on Twitter.

When I think back on music from “One Tree Hill” history, I could probably fill up on tunes from season one alone. So many songs used that year held meaning to the memorable moments on the show as well as to me and to my sister — who watched OTH alongside me since day one. It was her idea to even start our website, so you can partially thank her for OTH-Music.com even existing.

My sister told me I couldn’t take a look back on the music and not include the song that accompanied that first kiss between Nathan and Haley. Yep, Naley is the longest running couple in Tree Hill and quite frankly, I think they may be one of the longest running couples on primetime television.

They never actually broke up…. in nine seasons!

So, yeah- we all remember when Brooke made a spectacle of Nathan and Haley’s tutoring sessions at Nate’s house, in episode 1.06 during a basketball team party, and totally put Haley’s mood in the dumps. We remember Nathan’s attempts to apologize and Brooke’s grand gesture to set them up on a date in an effort to apologize to them both. We also remember how well that date went only for Nathan to dismiss Haley in front of his Ravens teammates while they were out to eat.

Insert second apology.

When Haley arrived back at her house the next day to find Nathan throwing rocks at the window of her empty window… I’m not going to lie…that was kind of cute. Guys still do that?

We loved his babbling apology to the girl he was totally sweet on and we could see Haley’s resolve crumbling and melting into putty during this moment. Hey, we would have too! Then the opening notes of Switchfoot’s “Dare You To Move” (Episode 1.07) began to play and my sister and I were all “oh my Gosh!” since we had already loved this song from one of our favorite movies (ahem, “A Walk To Remember“).

This was seriously the prettiest song to have playing in the background of his apology, and we love how the music supervising team (back then it was a few women handling it before Lindsay Wolfington (@lonewolflindsay) took over as ‘one singular sensation’) were able to que up the grand “I dare you to move” lyric just as Nathan went in for the kiss. This happened right after Haley ‘claimed’ there was nothing he could say or do that would surprise her.

Yeah right, Haley. Yeah-friggen-right.

If you’re in day-dreamland right now and taking yourself back to the moment of “One Tree Hill” where you really fell in love with the couple that is “Naley”, I dare you to move and go listen to this song.
